"I am only pages into the Lightroom Survival Kit course, I am VERY excited about it! There are many years of digital experience in the first 10 pages - years that I can bypass! Having a clear understanding of color space and color profile is fantastic."

The New Leica Store San Francisco

463 Bush Street, San Francisco, USA, July 1, 2014

I arrived one day too late to be there for the soft opening of the new Leica Store San Francisco on Monday, but got to see the store that is getting finished.

The Leica Store SF has the potential to be one of the best Leica Stores around. The feel and the size will invite to become a place to hangout, to meet up and share photos and show off old film cameras. That's how the best Leica Stores work, such as LA, Tokyo and London.

Note that there is the Akiko's Restaurant Japanese restaurant just down the street that is a great place for lunch or dinner after having visited the Leica Store.

A short trip to Los Angeles

Los Angeles, USA, July 6-8, 2014

We have a secret place in LA where we hang out, and we planned to do so. Sleep for long hours and do nothing. But as it is often the case with us, we ended up working a lot. Some of it you can read about in The Story Behind That Picture "The Hollywood Murder", my photo session with actor Terence Hines:

We also got to play around with the Leica M 240 and Leica 90mm THambar f/2.2, my lens from 1938 that is a special lens to create "sunny images".

Writing holiday in Florida

Clearwater, USA, July 9, 2014

We arrived in Florida to hang out here with writing stuff and hang out with my kids for the next five weeks before we have some concerts and events in LA. Then we have another two weeks where we will have to decide where to hang out.

My son got married!

Florida, USA, July 11., 2014

My son Oliver got married today in Florida. The lucky bride is Brittany who is from LA and is half Irish, half Italian.

Oliver and his 14 minutes older sister Caroline have been living in Clearwater since September 2012, and it was quite a surprise for Caroline that her 14 minutes younger twin brother would get married before her!

"Your work has deeply encouraged me to progress in my photographic journey after having been burned out working in the wedding photography field for many years. You have encouraged me to tap in once again to my creative side and my photography is much better in part due to your influence. Keep up the good work!"

How to set Photoshop CC2014 to 100% preview

July 17, 2014

Since I upgraded to Photoshop CC 2014 I have been bothered by Photoshop showing 100% previews that was much smaller than what the images actually looked in browswer.

After having looked in the Photoshop Preferences again and again for a way to set this to actual preview, I finally found out that the way to do it is to go to the Application folder on the Macbook Pro Retina and take info (press command + i) and then check the box Open in Low Resolution.

That solves the issue.

The thinking behind that 100% preview is much smaller in PS than in real applications is that one pixel on the screen (a Retina screen in particular) is not the same as in a web browser. A retina screen has 220 'points' per inch whereas a traditional screen had/has 100 'points per inch. Hence PS shows the actual pixels - which is 220 points now vs. 100 before, making your 100% image roughly 40% the sieze of what it is in actual use in a web browser. It is not very applicable when you edit images and want to see how they will look in a web brower, hence I had to find a way to change it. And I did!

How to set Photoshop CC2014 to 100% preview
Photoshop CC 2014 tip: The way to get your 100% preview back to 100% so Photoshop and web browser 100% previews look the same on your Retina screen is to go to the Application folder on the Macbook Pro Retina and take info (press command + i) and then check the box Open in Low Resolution.

Meeting Dick Zimmerman

Clearwater, USA, July 20, 2014

I met with Dick Zimmermann who have had a great career as a photographer in New York, Los Angeles and London photographing a lot of fashion and celebrities, the Michael Jackson album cover for Thriller" probably being the most iconic with a place as the no 7 album on the Rolling Stones top 100.

Zimmerman originally went into photography to become better painter, and one day he put down the camera and returned to painting, which is what he does now.

We had a long talk and a cigaret on the balcony with a view to the water whilst we fondled the Hasselblad that he used for the Thriller album some of my Leica's and the Thambar lens that I though might be just him. Read more in my upcoming The Story Behind That Picture.

The Singer

Florida, USA, July 25, 2014

We have met a few times and we're sort of warming up to a photo shoot that I am sure I will get back to. Here's a photo of Stacy Francis from her performance today.

Florida, July 26, 2014

One has to take into planning that it takes 10-15 minutes for the camera and lenses to adjust when they go from air condition to outside in Florida.
