Hello !
If you have a lot of ambition and a lot of equipment, this is my workshop I made for you to put it all into active use.
Join the Overgaard photo workshop in Salt Lake City (August 28-30, 2026) in beautiful Utah, and enjoy a special friendly price of only $2,098.00. Simply mail me back by replying to this email for reservation and signup, or sign up right now using this payment link (PayPal, Visa, MasterCard and American Express accepted).
Salt Lake City for sure is a very different experience than 'the usual big cities' of New York, London, Hong Kong, etc.The quiet space of this beautiful city will help us focus on using the cameras and lenses to capture the moment with technical excellence.
You will learn in this workshop that some of the elements important to dive into photography, is to feel inspired (as in being in a new place with new people), and to be able to focus on what it is you want to create (as in removing random action and noise by avoiding busy and happening places).
Hence, Salt Lake City is very promising. The weather will be very pleasant, around 20C / 68F. Read more about the workshop and the program at the website "Overgaard Workshop in Salt Lake City."
You may also reserve your spot(s) for only $850,00. |

A photograph is the world seen through the artist's soul
There is something only you have, and I am on a worldwide trail to help you find it. If Salt Lake City works for you, there is where it happens.Â
What you have, and only you, is you. Through the Overgaard Workshop we explore and dig out the uniqueness of being you, and the result will be good art that could only be made by you. As simple as that. You will get a living proof that even the others in the workshop have many things in common with you, none of them are like you, and none of them are the same.
The Overgaard Workshop is a mix of street walking, cozy moments hanging out on street corners, having a coffee break and talk about life, enjoying quiet places in the city, indoor photo editing, critique, portrait photography on location – and the always unexpected that occurs when you meet life and people in a city.

"Exactly why these workshops are enjoyable for me: Skill level, gear, years of experience are always trumped by positive energy and enthusiasm. Passion and energy, that's what makes Thorsten’s workshops memorable."– Steven Collins.
Do I have to use Leica to participate?
Any brand of camera is welcome, digital and film. You might be smitten by the idea of using a Leica during the workshop. No pressure, just lots of fun. Nikon, Sony, Canon, Fuji, Hasselblad et al is commonly seen.Â
You will learn in this workshop that one of the important elements to dive into photography is feeling inspired (such as being in a new place with new people), and being able to focus on what you want to create (by removing distractions and avoiding busy, happening places).
The workshop also includes time for editing and sharing our photos.Â

The Overgaard Workshop Experience
"At first I didn't realize what I had learned. The editing, and especially the portrait shooting, brought me a lot. In addition, the workshop gave me something new. I dared to submit a picture to a street art contest! The picture has now been chosen for an exhibition along with fourteen others. Thank you for your influence and the inspiration of your books."
M. K. (Berlin 2022 class)
Amazed and happy
"I wanted to tell you how amazed and happy I was with your workshop.

You were a constant professional and quite a guy!"

D. S. (Salt Lake City 2024 class)
I got my enthusiasm for photography back ... Just like that
"Back home from the workshop, I wanted to thank you for the London Workshop.
In your publicity material you say, 'My goal is to instill enthusiasm in any photographer and raise his or her skill level, self-confidence and production volume. And I do'.
Well, you did! It was a great pleasure."
R.H. (London 2024 class)
Your philosophy on photography resonates strongly with us
"My wife and I greatly enjoyed meeting you and the other workshop participants.
Your down-to-earth approach to the technical side of photography and philosophy of using great light to find beauty resonates strongly with us. Thank you for bringing us together this week."

J. L. (Salt Lake City 2024 class)
In the footsteps of a Master of photography ...
"A common mistake when you fall in love with photography, is to think that buying gear will bring you talent. Not so. When you're serious about photography, you need to devote quite a few hours, a couple days, to learn the craft by observing from someone who has honed his own craft for decades, like Thorsten Overgaard.
I had the chance to be in the footsteps of Thorsten, during a street photography workshop he organized in Paris, and it really opened my eyes on how to have the proper look through my freshly bought (used) Leica.Â
It is the kind of experience that "sticks" with you later, for hours of photographic pleasure. Not only did I learn about the technique but I was able to pick up almost on a philosophical level, an appreciation of life & light that is part and parcel of the craft of true Masters."
R. S. (Paris 2021 class)
Using great light to find beauty
"Your down to earth approach to the technical side of photography and philosophy of using great light to find beauty resonated strongly with me. Thank you for bringing us together this week."
L. L. (Salt Lake City class 2025)
A renewed love for photography
"Thorsten, thank you for leading with such deep generosity and care. It was my very first photography workshop, and you made it memorable. I came in nervous, not knowing much about my Leica Q2 – but I walked away with so much more than technical skills. I left with inspiration, confidence, and a renewed love for photography!"
N. S. (New York 2025 class)Â

One of the exciting things in an Overgaard Workshop (that you didn't expect) is the portrait photography part. A few hours where you get your personal crash course in working closely with a living person in front of the camera, and how to master the technical perfection of a photo using a reflector, light meter, color meter, and how to time the exact right moment to capture the soul of another person. You might also get to experience being in front of the camera, if you like.

"It was really great getting together with you and be in the Leica-bubble for a few days. I liked the relaxed atmosphere and learning from the group". Bengt Kallenberg by Thorsten Overgaard.
Salt Lake City and Utah not your thing?
