The Story Behind That Picture: "New York in Monochrom"

The Masterclass Experience

I've planned a few Monochrom Masterclass workshops in New York, Paris and Rome and the first in New York was a great success with 10 participants all hyped and on the go all day for three days. This is a view into what we made during the workshop. A lot of monochrom pictures, and a few color photographs.

Enjoy the photograph, and should you feel like expanding your horizon by attending one of the upcoming workshops or the next New York Workshop in January, have a look at the workshop calendar. You are more than welcome!

Review from the Overgaard Monochrom Masterclass Workshop in New York:

"Thank you for a great couple of days. It has been super fun and educational. I enjoyed our conversations.

Thank you Thorsten and thank you Joy for all support and I wish you both the best of luck with future endeavours.

Fun to meet so many more Leica users. I would love to keep in touch. If you are on Facebook - look me up at “Photo by Millberg.

"Dear Thorsten, Many thanks for a terrific three-day workshop!

Cannot tell you how much I enjoyed learning from you and with colleagues (and new friends) from around the world.

I feel that my skills improved, and everyone learned in a very relaxed manner. Joy was extraordinarily gracious to work with all of the students.

Wishing you and Joy well."

"It was a great experience meeting all of you and learning so much. We should try to have “reunions” and figure out a way to stay in touch besides electronically.

I will be moving to London in the next months and that would be a good place to meet and continue our education. But there are so many wonderful places to take your Leica (anyplace) and yes Thorsten I will try to wear it without an UV filter and no lens cap! Ha.

Thank you Thorsten for making this a special experience and what a great birthday present from my 5 kids."

""I am really enjoying the Lightroom Survival Kit 6.

I love the 2010 process ... can't explain it, but just nicer looking images.

I want to thank you for the level of excellence in your teaching. I believe you are one of those rare individuals who can explain things in a way that a neophyte like me can grasp the concepts you present.

That, my friend, is a true gift!"

Joe Van Wyk with Thorsten von Overgaard in New York
"My new friend Thorsten von Overgaard, world-renowned photographer from Denmark.

"The last four days at his workshop in Manhattan have been the experience of a lifetime.

"I'm coming home to San Antonio with a tremendous sense of freedom rather than pressure. I feel like the Universe has given me the green light to further develop my own style, rather than copying trends.

"I am humbled by the inspiration of Thorsten and my 9 classmates. Filled with awe at the magic of photography and the greatest backdrop in the world — New York City."
